The Story of Leith Project, Leith

Writers and playwrights sharing the story of Leith's past through performances and the creation of a soundscape.

About the project

The Story of Leith Project is led by the Citadel Arts Group, Leith. This well-established arts group has been delivering performance and living memory projects since 1995.

With the support of Scotland's Urban Past (SUP), they have created two new one-act plays, Leith Doctors and Dockers, featuring history-based scripts created by members of the Citadel Arts Group.

A workshop from SUP, led by the highly regarded Scottish playwright, Jo Clifford, helped to increase the writers' skills and build confidence in creating the short plays. In Spring 2016, the group also received training in social media management and event promotion.

As part of the wider Story of Leith Project, the group produced an MP3 soundscape for self-guided walking tours of the Leith area in collaboration with Archaeology Scotland's Adopt-A-Monument Scheme.

The soundscape and double-bill of short plays were performed during the 2016 Leith Festival.
