Chill Out Zone, Bathgate

Scotland's Urban Past have been working with the young people of Bathgate's Chill Out Zone to help them work towards a publication promoting their place.

Promoting a positive place

Scotland's Urban Past have been working with the young people at Bathgate's Chill Out Zone, West Lothian. Young people at the Chill Out Zone are keen to promote a positive image of their drop in centre, reach out to older people within Bathgate and produce a publication about their place. With many members coming from nearby places such as Armadale, young people were keen to find out more about Bathgate "Pre-COZ."

Over a series of four workshops Scotland's Urban Past have provided young people with the skills they will need to investigate and record the story of their buidling and how it fits into its wider urban landscape and community. These have included project planning, community mapping, photography and interviewing and film training. The young people are currently working on building their content through open access mapping software in preparation for the release of their publication in the New Year.

The Chill Out Zone is a drop in centre for young people run by Children 1st. As well as being a social space for young people to relax and make friends it provides advice on health and well being and access to councelling.
