Survey Flashmob: Girvan (Morning Session)

Join us on Saturday for our first ever Survey Flashmob: an active, fast-paced survey all over Girvan. We’ll be going across the town taking images of unrecorded buildings and monuments and adding those new photographs to the official National Record of the Historic Environment.

Each Survey Flashmob will last around 2.5 hours total, including the actual Survey Flashmob itself and adding findings to the National Record. There is a compulsory briefing session Friday evening to explain what will happen on the day. This will happen at 18:00-19:30, Friday 20 October 2017 at the McKechnie Institute.

This will be an active event, so come prepared, rain or shine, to explore every nook and cranny of Girvan’s unrecorded history.

What is a Survey Flashmob?

A  Survey Flashmob is an ultra-fast photographic surveys of streets and buildings in a particular town or city.

How does it work? What do participants do?

·           The Scotland’s Urban Past team will lead a workshop the day before to introduce you to the idea behind the survey and what to look out for while taking photographs.

·           On the day, the Survey Flashmob will be a rapid fire photographic survey over a roughly 90 minutes and then a 30 minute session of inputting the new images into the National Record.

 Why Girvan?

There’s barely anything on Girvan in the National Record and the images collected in the Survey Flashmob will be added to paint a better picture of the town. The survey material will also help the Girvan Town Team and Girvan Future Unwritten create a design brief to discover and explore old and new stories about Girvan and reimagine tourist experiences in the town.
